Meet the Maker: Bohobo Aromatherapies

Tell us about your business, what is it you do and how did you get into it?
We make natural handmade aromatherapy-based products and organic skincare in Frome, Somerset. Our business grew out of a shared desire to slow down and spend as much time with our daughters as possible. I studied aromatherapy 25 years ago and began making Bohobo Aromatherapies products in 2014. Our products (and lives) are both constant and evolving and follow an organic, holistic approach. In 2015 we began adding Ayurvedic elements and crystal infusion to the blends and focusing on how daily ritual can greatly enhance living.
Who would you be most excited about getting an order from and why?
The wife of a Bond (who is an absolutely fantastic actress) bought one of our Let’s Make Love aromaremedies and we were tickled by that for a long time. Imagine it. We do have other rock stars, artists, poets and actors who love our products and we are usually pretty discreet. Miles would like Harry Kane and you’ll have to ask me who when you see me.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
Miles and I like walking on the beach in the winter and in the woods in the summer. We like a giggle and can be found playing Uno and Snatch It on the daily.
What is the piece of work you’re most proud of?
Our Chakra Balancing Spray, Ayurvedic Blends, Organic Face Cream, Natural Deodorants and Organic Eye Oil.
Do you have music you listen to or a ritual to create the right atmosphere to help you create and concentrate?
Atmosphere is everything in creating. All our products are made with intent. We like to think of process as sourdough where the energy is infused in every bite. We play mantras and love Prem Siri and Snatnam Kaur.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced and do you have any advice for others?
We have our products, ideas and voices copied all the time. I used to feel really upset about it but soon realised we just need to continue being true to ourselves and creating not consuming. Our advice in every aspect of business and life is to be your most authentic self.
What’s behind your business name?
Bohobo is the English portmanteau of Bobo – Bourgeois Bohemian. We lived in 19 and 20eme neighbourhoods of Paris for almost ten years which is full of Bobos. People who want to live outside the 9 to 5 with creative rebellion, making a sustainable life without too much crunch. Aromatherapies because we make aromatherapy-based products.
Each of your designs is unique and original – how do you sustain that diversity?
By creating not consuming.
What inspires you?
Our sidelines and business are very much interwoven. Miles, is an abstract painter, and I am a writer. We both have a meditation practice and are inspired by nature, seasons and ritual.
